Pink Eye

Pink eye (conjunctivitis) is inflammation of the thin membrane covering the white of the eye and inner eyelid, causing redness, itching, and discharge. Viral pink eye — the most common type — is contagious and self-limiting, usually clearing in 1–2 weeks without treatment, while bacterial pink eye needs antibiotic drops and allergic pink eye needs allergy management. Because the type is hard to tell apart at home and eye infections can occasionally threaten vision, this page intentionally sticks to hygiene and comfort measures rather than anything applied into the eye — significant pain, light sensitivity, or vision changes should be evaluated by a doctor.
